Where it started
Halal Fried Chicken.
Mr Shaffi ran Halal Fried Chicken, and as teenagers Asif and Zahir were there helping out. Late nights, often until 5am: the fryer, the counter, the regulars, the rush when everywhere else had shut. They learned every part of it.
-
Manchester Street
Tasty's opens on Manchester Street.
With everything those late nights taught them, the brothers opened their own shop. Back then it was fresh fried chicken and nothing else, cooked when you ordered it.
-
The sauce
Known for the chilli sauce.
The chicken brought people in. The chilli sauce brought them back. It became what Tasty's was known for across Luton, and it still goes in every bag.
-
2013
Peri peri arrives.
Peri peri joined the menu, grilled over real flame in four heats: Lemon & Herb, Mild, Hot and Extra Hot. Fried chicken and flame-grilled, under one roof.
-
Next door
Busy enough to buy next door.
The queues kept growing, so when the property next door came up, the brothers bought it.
-
The Covid years
Two doors. One Tasty's.
Around Covid, they knocked the two shops into one. The bigger, brighter Tasty's you walk into today.
-
Today
A Luton staple.
Tasty's is one of Luton's best-known takeaways, the kind of place people travel hours to try. Still the same family, still cooked to order, still that chilli sauce.
The journey ยท a Luton family story
From our dad's fryer to Manchester Street.
Before there was Tasty's, there was Halal Fried Chicken, Mr Shaffi's shop. That's where his sons Asif and Zahir learned the trade, one late night at a time.
What hasn't changed
